Airdolphin Package Overview

For a business customer the Airdolphin installation can be on a tilt tower or one of our special frames can be used to satisfy a variety of potential building installation scenarios.

For a residential customer the Airdolphin is installed on a tilt tower within the boundary of the property. The location of the installation site and the tower will need to be determined by a site survey (mandatory) before the Airdolphin can be purchased.

This standard residential package costs between £6000-£7000 and includes:

- One Airdolphin Z1000 micro-wind turbine
- One 9m monopole tilt-tower
- One Semplice Energy grid-tie cabinet
- Concrete foundation and tower installation
- Cabling trenching and laying
- Electrical connection
Airdolphin Package Overview

Airdolphin Features

The Semplice Energy grid-tie system has a maximum output of 1.1 kW and includes our Patent Pending interconnection system that takes excess energy from high wind conditions and stores it for later consumption by the inverter.

Although rated at 1kW at a wind speed of 12m/s the Airdolphin can actually produce as much as 3.2kW in a strong 20m/s wind. This sort of wind is obtained in storm conditions in the UK and the system ensures that as much energy as possible is captured and fed back into the customers property.

In laymans terms the system can push a maximum of 1100 watts of mains electricity, at any given time, into your property to supplement your consumption from the National Grid. The annual electricity production from the wind turbine is directly related to the speed of the wind passing across the turbine through the year.

The Airdolphin is expected to generate between 500kW hours and 1400kW hours of electricity per year. The CO2 savings are directly linked to the amount electricity generated with a reasonably windy site generating as much as 500kg in CO2 reduction.

Please note that unless you have a years worth of historic wind speed data for your specific location, recorded at the height that you intend to install the wind turbine, it is not possible to accurately pre-determine the amount of electricity that will be generated.

What is the process for purchasing an Airdolphin wind turbine?

(1) Check whether a wind turbine may be suitable for your property by using the suitability checklist below.

(2) If you think your site may be suitable, order a site survey online.

(3) We will contact you to confirm the date of your site survey (please note that during busy times it may take up to 4 weeks to carry out the site survey).

(4) One of our accredited partners will carry out the site survey at your premises on the agreed date.

(5) Once we have collected and assessed the data from the site survey we will provide you with a report setting out our findings, including an assessment of the likely performance of the wind turbine, information required for submitting a planning application and a quotation for the full installed price.

(6) If you wish to proceed with purchasing an Airdolphin wind turbine system, you must ensure that you have all the necessary planning and building control approvals in place.

(7) Order your Airdolphin wind turbine from our accredited partner. Please note that a grant is currently not available for the installation of this wind turbine.

(8) Our accredited partner will then contact you to co-ordinate the installation. Installation normally takes place over 2 separate days.

Suitability checklist

(1) Check the wind speed in your area. Use the NOABL wind speed database to check the average wind speed in your area. The database is based on a computerised air flow model that looks at the overall topography within a 1km radius of your site. It is therefore important to remember that the model will not reflect local factors such as trees, dips or hills that may have an impact on wind speeds at your specific location.

(2) Check the local planning and building control requirements in your area
It is still necessary to get planning permission to install a wind turbine in most areas and you should check the requirements with your local authority before ordering a wind turbine. In some cases it may also be necessary to get building control approval, although this is generally only required when the turbine is mounted on or attached to a building.

(3) Consider where you would install the turbine and the control cabinet - are there any obstructions? You should look at situating the turbine as far away as possible from obstructions (in particular consider the prevailing wind direction at your site and try to ensure that there are no obstructions in the path of the prevailing wind direction). The control cabinet should be located as close as possible to the base of the turbine tower to minimise the length of heavy cabling required. Also bear in mind that it will be necessary to lay a cable from the control cabinet to the distribution cupboard in your property.

(4) What impact might the wind turbine have on the local environment and neighbours? Would the proposed location disrupt neighbours or are there any local environmental factors to consider? There is no evidence that wind turbines impact birds or bats and this is supported by data from the RSBP, but when deciding where to site a turbine, consideration should be given as to whether the turbine is in the flight path to a bird or bat roost.

Why do I need a site survey?

The site survey will be conducted by one of our accredited partners and will include the following:

(1) An assessment of the wind resource in your location. The survey report will provide you with an estimate of the annual energy generation from the turbine, taking into account average wind speeds and the impact of local obstructions.

(2) A structural/mechanical assessment of the site. This will include ground conditions, cable runs, space for tilting the tower etc.

(3) An assessment of the electrical systems. This will include method of connection to your distribution board, earth testing, metering arrangements and details of electricity supplier and network operator.

(4) A review of planning considerations. This will include supplying you with the necessary information to enable you to submit a planning application in relation to the installation of the turbine.

(5) A review of health and safety considerations.

(6) A quotation for the full installed cost of the system.

Once the site survey has been completed you will be provided with the results of the survey. This should enable you to make a decision as to whether you wish to proceed with purchasing the turbine and also provide you with the information you need to submit a planning application, if you have not already done so.
