LED lighting is a relatively new technology. The light levels emitted are constantly being improved. Current LED spot lamps offer very low energy consumption (around 1.8 Watts) and generate very little waste heat. The light levels are still quite low compared to a modern CFL spot lamp or the superb Cold Cathode CFL spot lamp replacement. With this in mind more LED spot lamps may be required to reach an adequate lighting level. Semplice Energy recommends their use for lighting pictures or signs. They can also be used as decorative lighting or to add a little light to a dark corner.
If you wish to use LED spot lamps to replace 50 Watt halogen spot lamps and achieve a similar lighting level you may wish to consider mixing them with a single Cold Cathode spot lamp (see our Low Energy Spot Lamp Replacements section). The Cold Cathode can provide a lot of light for a small cost of 5 Watts of power. Then you can use the LED spot lamps to highlight areas in your room, kitchen or bathroom.
